WHERE AM I:

SYDNEY, NSW

home for the Holidays

I AM READING:

Thank you to Deb from reading group for recommending me Toni Morrisons 1987 book Beloved.

It feels like my first delve into a less literal, alternative syntax. If other books were like imagining a golden age hollywood film, this one is like seeing a surrealist film in your minds eye. The first Bergman of my imagination..

The implicit meaning in each passage draws you inside of the deep pain of it’s characters and allows your mind to engage in any number of visions about what might really be happening.

I AM FEELING:
Somewhat ordered and happy in my own care.

THINGS HAPPENING:
My friend Olive and I are living together and working on what has now become a large collection of songs.

I am currently working on and off on a photobook collating photos, business cards and other artifacts from my travels in the Snowy Monaro earlier in the year.
The running title is ‘I Left My Brumby Skull In Binjura’.

NOTES AND RECOMMENDATIONS:

VOSS Spring- Summer 2001 by Lee Alexander Mcqueen

O, her partner and I were sitting on the couch the other day talking about costume design and a show that I have re-occuring thoughts about at least 5 times a year popped up again. McQueens ‘Voss’ collection Spring/Summer 2001. Not exactly a deep cut but widely celebrated for a reason.

McQueen would often sit for hours in the garden of his friend(emy) and patron Isabella Blow out in the english countryside. Whilst enjoying a cup of tea he would observe the many different birds that would swoop in and perch in her avery. That’s how he came up with the direction for his breathtaking feathered courture dresses. I am still sad I went to London in December and no tribute exists to him beyond the flagship store and a small discreet plaque on the side of his council flat in Newham.

Magic Of The Sale by Teethe (Dir. Ben Turok)

I will forever be fascinated by the innocence, joy and volatility of childhood play.
This video ‘Magic Of The Sale’ by Teethe a small band from Texas feels like the music video short I have always wanted to make about those exact themes. The perspective shots looking up at the kids on angles from the dirt they’re playing in are so precious.

Just press play and let it hypnotise you, maybe bring a few tissues and call your siblings directly after if needed.

That’s all for now.

Merry Christmas

Love,
